“Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.”
–Stephen Covey
READING
AND LISTENING
Articulate writing is acquired
through habitual reading; eloquent speaking is acquired through active
listening. For listening and reading allows the derivation of the purpose of
communication.
COMMUNICATION
HAS A PURPOSE
The purpose of communication
is to allow discourse between people to develop relationships, relay
informations, and amplify the unheard voices. Communication always has a
purpose. For that makes us distinct from animals, we have language and it
transcends the human experience.
LISTEN,
LOOK, AND LEARN.
Stephen Covey said that “Most
people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent
to reply.” In listening, our eyes are opened to look around us (may it be good
or bad) and we learn from it. Life is about maximizing our time, energy, and
effort to become the better versions of ourselves.
One should know how to listen
actively; but one should also know who to listen to. Our world is devoid of
silence. Our life is filled with many voices and noises. Always listen to the
true, helpful, insightful, necessary, and kind words. However, constructive
criticisms are always for the improvement of our well-being. Knowing how to
filter salient voices for growth, development, and advancement could save us
from dilemmas.
Look around you. Look
everywhere. Look inside you. Look intently. Our world is filled with
breathtaking views. But, one should take the good with the bad. Angelique Manto
said that in every aspect there is good and bad. One should be able to learn
and grow from the latter to become a well-rounded person.
Learning does end in the four
corners of classrooms or the online meeting. It starts there, but ends where?
It ends with sharing what is learned to other people until it creates an
endless ripple of learning. For learning liberates us from the chains of
foolishness, fatuity, and falsity.
LISTEN… LOOK… AND LEARN.
ALWAYS AND FOREVER A LEARNER.
