Nakapasa ako sa UST! Yay! Thank you Lord! So, sa second screening namin ni-require kami na magsulat ng essay tungkol sa paano namin magagamit 'yung technology sa aming chosen program. At ito ang ipinasa ko. Thankfully nagustuhan nila at nakapasa ako. Ang program na pinili ko ay AB History kasi kilala ang UST na pinakamatandang isstitusyon sa Asya kaya mayaman ito sa impormasyon. 'Yun lang at ito na ang aking essay. Enjoy!
The
Battle against Social Issues and Fake News in the light of History and Digital
Technology
by Geomari Miguel R. Dominguez
Generation Z is the first
generation to have an access to internet connectivity. It posed both advantages
and disadvantages, especially now in the online learning set-up. I have chosen the History program, which has
been a hot issue nowadays. Fake news has been rampant regarding news for
everyone has had their hands to spread whatever information they wish.
I
would optimally use the technology to my advantage in pursuing my program at
the University of Santo Tomas by effectively using the resources that the
university would offer and with the resources gathered I will efficiently be
using my skills to spread the truth in history in social media platforms.
The
University of Santo Tomas was founded on April 28, 1611, by Miguel de Benavides. Thus, making it the
oldest university in Asia. That numerous knowledge from different periods of
time has collectively made the institution a powerhouse of historical
information. From the likes of Jose Rizal
and the GomBurZa who made impactful
contributions to the nationalistic advancements of the Philippines. With that
my passion for reading History would utilize the heart of nationalism burning
from those heroes translated into the works of Jose Rizal in Noli Me
Tangere, El Filibusterismo, and many more books in the haven of knowledge –
The Miguel de Benavides Library.
I
believe that History does improve the quality of intellect and life of people
for it is the collective memory of human civilization. Contrary to the beliefs
of many that history is mere memorization, it is finding the significant
lessons of events to the present time. As Martin Luther King Jr. would say, “We are not makers of history. We are made by
history.”
In
the materials and resources that I have relished upon, I would then apply them
to my skillset: writing and performing. I am an aspiring writer and have been
found with the works of Binibining Mia
on Wattpad, she has been producing novels with the themes of history. With that
being said, I aspire to follow in her footsteps for I am also am a firm
believer in the significance of Philippine History.
I
have been also a part of the Teatro Filipino way back in 10th Grade and we have
performed “Himig ng Lipunan”, which tells the story of the unproductive and
problematic students, the struggles of the farmers, and the elitism of the
rich, the LGBTQIA++ community and the church. In a way, I have performed a
glimpse of history that is ongoing and I am taking part in opening blindness of
the people to the cancers of society.
Going
back to the fake news, with the edited, filtered, and distorted lens. I will
exert my absolute effort to spread the truth in history, especially on
Facebook, where people tend to be gullible over edited headlines and video
clips.
I
currently have my blog where I share a glimpse of my life and the stories in my
head. That in its little way I am becoming a historian, myself. Slowly and
gradually writing the chapters of the new age.
Digital
technology and History should be utilized effectively and efficiently for it to
bear good fruits that would beneficial to the advancement and progression of
humanity towards building a community that is inclusive, respectful, and responsible.
As a part of Generation Z, I would do my part to lessen the spread of fake news
on social media by battling it with facts learned from this program in the
prestigious university and cultivating the minds of the next generation to find
the essence of History whilst in the Digital Age.
