DIWA DIWATA (2021)

Diwa and his classmates are in gymnasium watching the play of Diwata. He is intently watching the play as he comfortably sits placing his palm in his chin.

“I want to be a Diwata,” he muttered as his eyes are fixated to the diwatas dancing and twirling.

After the play, they were dismissed by their teacher.

Diwa's Mom is waiting in the school's gate to fetch him.

Then, the students were dismissed and ran towards the gate.

One boy, a classmate of Diwa, approached Diwa's Mom and said, "Is Diwa gay? Because he acts like a girl."

Diwa's Mom was shocked and suprised by what the boy said about Diwa. No words came out from her mouth.

She then snapped back to reality when she heard Diwa's voice greeting her, "Hi, Mom! I had fun today because we watch Diwatas"

Upon reaching their house, he gathered all the things he need to transform into a diwata.

His mother went to the kitchen to prepare their lunch.

He stood in front of a mirror as he draped the bed sheet as his dress. He placed a towel in his head that in his mind served as his hair. He decorated his head with the flower that he got from their vase. He waved the pencil in his hands like it’s the wand used by the diwatas.

 “Diwa, let’s eat dinner” he heard his mother’s call.

But it’s too late for him to change what he is wearing. His mother opened the door and saw Diwa draped in bed sheet with towel on his head and flower on his ear.

“Diwa… you look wonderful,” she said as she walked towards him and embraced him.

“T-Thank you, Mom!” he whispered.

“I want to be a diwata like the one I saw in school, “ he exuberantly told his Mom.

“You want to be a diwata. Mom will help you become the most beautiful diwata ever,” she said as she kissed diwa again in the cheeks.

Later on that same day, Diwa and his mom sits as they watch Diwatas in their television.

Both of them fell asleep. And in their dreams they are Diwata flying and casting magic to people. They were smiling happily. Their hearts are filled with love and acceptance and... magic.

“You can be whoever you want to be.”
